However, after his accession to the throne in September 2022, he did not travel to the World Climate Conference in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt last year. Then Prime Minister Liz Truss reportedly objected to his participation.

The short-term conservative head of government was skeptical of her predecessor Boris Johnson’s promises to make the British economy climate neutral. Charles III instead hosted a reception with around 200 international representatives of business, NGOs and other key players in Sharm el-Sheikh two days before the start of negotiations.

On Wednesday, Charles III used. a visit to the UN office in the Kenyan capital Nairobi to call for unity in the fight against the climate crisis. Global warming and species extinction are “challenges that threaten us all and that only society as a whole can meet by working together in a spirit of action, partnership and commitment,” the British king stressed.
