According to reports by military bloggers, Russia is now using a new weapon in Ukraine to more effectively target Ukrainian air defenses and other targets. The American Institute for War Studies also refers to the possible deployment in its daily analysis. The Ukrainian military reported a wave of attacks on the night of October 30, but cited Shahed drones and Russian KH-59s as well as Iskander missiles.
The Russian bomb floats after being dropped and can hit positions and military installations with great accuracy. The US also has similar glide bombs. According to reports, Russia has upgraded and modernized its FAB models.
The bomb, named FAB-1500 MP4, also has fixed hover wings and is said to have a built-in laser that can detect a target with extreme precision. In addition, the weapon must be guided to its target location using satellite technology. A Russian system should be used instead of the American GPS. There have been no official statements from the Russian side about the operation in Ukraine.
FYI: Yesterday Russia launched at least 36 FAB-500/1500 guided glide bombs at targets on both sides of the Dnipro in #Kherson. That is a record and an indication of the deep Russian concern about the AFU’s activities there.

Bombs can destroy bunkers
The hover bomb owes its name to its weight, approximately 1,500 kilograms. If it’s a hit, it’s possible, according to a report in the American magazine ‘Newsweek’ Damage within a radius of half a kilometer to arrange. Due to its enormous explosive power, it could break bunkers, even if they are up to 20 meters deep in the ground.
Video footage showed that Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu visited a factory where the weapons – apparently in large quantities – were manufactured.
Russian military bloggers write on Telegram that the giants were able to penetrate even concrete three meters thick. The glide bombs are dropped from airplanes. The Su-34, Su-30 and Su-35 fighter jets of the Russian Air Force would be eligible. They can drop the payload from a great height, far away from Ukrainian air defenses.
“One of the biggest fears” of the Ukrainian troops
The Ukrainian air force had already warned about Russian glide bombs in April. At that time the smaller FAB 500 models were used. According to the Russian Telegram channel “Fighterbomber”, these could not simply be increased. Therefore, the FAB 1500 model had to be completely rebuilt. “Everything is new,” said a message on Telegram. Accordingly, the accuracy of the hit should be five meters, and the bomb should carry up to 700 kilograms of explosives. Two of these weapons could be attached to a fighter jet.
The multiton rockets may not be as elegant and accurate as the smaller glide bombs from Ukraine or the US. But with their heavier explosives, they are “one of the biggest fears” of Ukrainian troops, Ukrainian soldier Olexandr Solon’ko told US magazine Forbes.
