Life sentence for attempted murder of US Secret Service agent in England Kidnapping for ransom: 70 bodies of suspected hostages discovered in Nigeria

The man himself had worked for the British secret service.

A man in Britain has been sentenced to life in prison for a knife attack on an NSA employee. He attacked the woman in Cheltenham, England, in March, stabbing her several times. A court in London classified the attack as attempted murder and gave the 29-year-old a life sentence, the British news agency PA reported from the courtroom on Monday. Early release is therefore only possible after 13 years.

The man used to work for the British secret service GCHQ. The software developer targeted the woman because he was bothered by the power of the US secret service NSA, the PA report said. He is also said to be angry with his former employer and with women in general.

The judge considered the act a political attack. The man wanted to disrupt the work between the British and American secret services with an attack. The woman was attacked as she left a leisure center where she was exercising with a friend. (sda/dpa)
