Customs and police investigators from the EU island republic of Cyprus have seized 500 kilograms of amphetamine mephedrone from an airport warehouse in the port city of Larnaca. “It is the largest quantity of this type of drug ever seized in Cyprus,” Cypriot police spokesman Christos Andreou said on Cypriot radio on Friday.
The police spokesman said this synthetic stimulant drug had been sent in barrels by plane to Cyprus from a non-EU country. “We are now looking for who ordered the drugs and where they should be sent,” he added. The investigation was “in full swing,” it was said. Cypriot media reported that the drugs had been shipped from India and would be forwarded to another EU country. (saw/sda/dpa)
