A man walked into a Lewiston bowling alley with a gun and killed 22 people.

“There is an active shooter in Lewiston,” warns police, who are currently searching for an armed man. Residents must stay at home and lock their doors.

One of the worst shootings in American history occurred Wednesday when a gunman entered a bowling alley armed with a rifle and started shooting. He then entered a barbecue restaurant and opened fire again. At least 22 people are killed and 60 others are injured.

Police have published photos of the suspected shooter. You see a man with a gun pointed at him. Police identified the main suspect as Robert Card, 40.

The man is “armed and dangerous,” police warn. As the New York Post reports, Card is apparently a reservist in the US Army. The American is from Bowdoin, about 20 minutes from Lewiston. In the city he worked as a weapons instructor. His job gave him access to weapons, the Daily Mail reports.

Card heard voices

According to media reports, Card was known to authorities and is considered mentally ill. Sources say he threatened to blow up a military training base in Saco. It is also said that he heard voices. In the summer of this year he was placed in a psychiatric clinic, but was released after just two weeks.

According to CNN, Card recently lost his job. He studied engineering from 2001 to 2004, but it is unclear whether he completed his studies. He has been divorced twice and has three children. One of his ex-wives accused him of domestic violence, writes NDTV. Another criminal case was also underway against the suspect.

The suspected perpetrator is said to have fled by car. The police also published a photo of a car and asked the public for information about the man and the car. So far, Card is only considered a suspect. Police previously published a photo of another suspect, but it is now believed he acted alone. (jwg/SDA)
