A Swiss woman was brutally murdered in India. The suspect Gurpreet S.* (30) allegedly tied her in a car and later strangled her.
The Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) confirmed the woman’s death to Blick.
According to Indian media, it is Tanja F.** The Swiss woman is said to have been in her thirties and lived in the canton of Zurich.
Was the perpetrator a human trafficker?
What could have been the motive for the crime? As the ‘Times of India’ writes, S. killed her because she had rejected his marriage proposal.
However, S. is no longer only being investigated for murder; there are also allegations of human trafficking. It is being investigated whether S. was part of a similar ring and whether he murdered the woman in this context. According to police circles, there are indications of this.
Transactions involving large amounts are said to have been made on the man’s account. The confessor was said to be in possession of four firearms and fifty rounds of ammunition, raising suspicions that he may have been involved in criminal activities. A search also found large amounts of cash, twelve SIM cards and four mobile phones.
Trapped with a “magic trick”.
According to reports, S. had invited the Swiss woman to India and promised to take her to Mumbai and Goa.
When the two met in New Delhi last Wednesday, he blindfolded her in the car. For a ‘magic trick’, as he said. She reportedly laughed and asked if she would now receive tickets to Mumbai and Goa as a gift, writes the Times of India. Then he tied her up. According to reports, the man had already used the trick in the past and told F. that this way evil spirits would be ward off.
Instead, death awaited her. S. initially left the body in the car and ran away. He then googled the best way to dispose of the body.
Two days later he returned to the vehicle and discovered that the body had begun to decompose and had a strong odor. S. put the body in a garbage bag and dumped it on the side of the road near a school. Shortly afterwards, passersby who discovered the dead woman alerted the police.
Was Tanja F. tortured?
Visible signs of torture, including burns, cuts and blisters, were reportedly found on the dead woman’s body. The car in which Tanja F. died is said to belong to a sex worker. According to investigators, Gurpreet S. also had contact with ten to twelve foreign women – in connection with his father’s gemstone business, as he says. The police do not consider this very credible. Police discovered videos and photos of the victim and other women on the alleged criminal’s cell phone.
The suspect stated that this was not the first time that F. traveled to India. It is said to be her third visit to India in the last two to three years. The two met in Zurich in 2021 through a dating app. Gurpreet S. claims to have traveled to Switzerland eight times in the same period.
However, S. had repeatedly changed his statements. ‘He now claims he hired hitmen to kill her in the car. His statement is being verified,” it said.
