After the brutal Hamas attacks on Israeli civilians – including babies – a new war is breaking out in the world. The conflict in the Middle East has deep roots, it is now simmering heavily and experts are warning of a conflagration in the region.
Yesterday, US President Joe Biden visited Israel and once again assured Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of US full support. However, Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine in Europe continues. And one person is apparently particularly happy with the “double burden” on the world police in the US.
For Russian President Vladimir Putin, the chaos in the Middle East comes at just the right time. This is also what one of his propagandists on Russian state television thinks.
The Russian propagandist says what experts suspect
“I’ll probably stir up some negative emotions right now, but I don’t care,” he says. This conflict offers the opportunity to weaken Western support for Ukraine and creates problems for Russia’s geopolitical opponent, the United States. Any development in the Middle East would therefore be beneficial for Russia, he explains and emphasizes: he says this as a patriot of his country.

Russia apparently had no hand in this and probably knew nothing about Hamas’ surprise attack, but: ‘Putin is profiting from the global chaos. His goal is still the destruction of the current international system,” Anna Borshchevskaya, senior fellow at the Washington Institute for Middle East Policy, told Foreign Policy.
According to the report, there are already benefits for the Kremlin.
The Russian attack on Avdiivka is lost in the media
As Israel fends off Hamas attacks and prepares for the ground offensive in the Gaza Strip to destroy the terrorist group Hamas, a lot is also happening in Ukraine. The Russian army launched a massive ten-day offensive to recapture the Avdiivka area in Ukraine’s Donbas region. Due to the war in Israel, reports about this rarely made the news.
Russia could exploit the war in Israel by diverting attention from Ukraine, Admiral Rob Bauer, NATO’s top military officer, warned in an interview at the alliance’s headquarters in Brussels. But Biden is optimistic.
Biden shows strength: we can do it – but there is also China
‘We are the most powerful nation in the history of the world. We can take care of Israel and Ukraine and still maintain our entire international defense,” the US president said in an interview. The question, however, is whether the US also has sufficient extinguishing water for a third fire. Experts warn that China could take advantage of the US distraction to invade the island of Taiwan.
That would probably also be to Russia’s advantage.

One thing is certain: Russia is challenging the world order. Political scientist Denis Cenusa emphasized this in an earlier conversation with Watson. He works at the Center for Eastern European Studies (EESC). According to him, the security architecture of the international system is in crisis.
The reason: a major player, Russia, is violating international rules to a degree never before seen in Europe. By doing so, the Kremlin is testing the West’s reliability as “guardian of the rules-based international order.”
