Yossi Landau has to take a breath and pause his story several times. Visibly shocked, his voice breaks again and again. He looks almost in tears. What he says next barely seems to come out of his mouth.
In a video on X, Landau talks about the scenes he experienced as a member of the Zaka. Zaka is an international Jewish rescue organization recognized by the UN. In recent days, Zakah members have visited homes attacked by Hamas. But the people there could no longer be helped.
“Who was tortured first?”
With a shaking voice, the man starts to tell what they found in one of the houses. When they entered, they first saw the parents on one side of the room. “They were face down on their knees. Her hands were tied behind her back,” Landau said.
On the other side of the dining room they discovered the two children, a seven-year-old boy and a six-year-old girl. The children were found in the same position as their parents: hands tied, faces on the ground.
Landau takes a breath and says, “You were tortured.” He then asks a depressing question: “Who was tortured first? Was it the children who had to watch their parents being tortured?”
Terrorists ate at the family table
Without waiting for an answer, Landau starts on a list that he clearly finds difficult. He lists piece by piece what was done to the family during the torture. “Body parts were missing. Someone’s eye was gouged out. Fingers were…», he interrupts himself and slams his hand on the table top. You can only imagine what he can’t say.
The volunteer’s voice now cracks audibly. “In the end they all got a bullet. But that wasn’t all.” In the center of the dining room, a table was set for the family dinner on Saturday. But the family would never experience it again. The video ends with Landau’s last words: “The terrorists ate their food while they tortured the children.” (gs)
