United States intelligence attributed Wednesday’s attack on a hospital in Gaza, which killed 471 people, to a rocket launched by the Palestinian Islamic Jihad group, in an analysis similar to that done by the Israeli government.
US officials said yes based on various evidence, such as satellite images and videosthey came to the preliminary conclusion that the explosion was caused by a rocket launched by Islamic Jihad.
Separately, White House National Security Council spokeswoman Adrienne Watson stressed that information showed Israel was “not responsible” for the hospital explosion.
“While we continue to gather information, our current assessment, based on an analysis of aerial footage, electronic surveillance and open source information, is that Israel is not responsible for the explosion at a hospital in Gaza yesterday (Tuesday),” Watson said in a statement released.
Biden supports Israel’s version of a hospital in Gaza
The president of the United States, Joe Biden, who visited Israel, also supported the Israeli executive’s claims that Tuesday’s explosion at Al Ahli hospital in Gaza City, where the Palestinian health ministry says 471 people died, was the work of “the other side.”
“Based on what I’ve seen, that seems to be the case “The second part has passed, but there are a lot of people who are not sure, so we have a lot ahead of us,” Biden indicated at the beginning of a bilateral meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in front of television cameras.
Later, when asked by reporters why he was sure Israel was not involved, the US president referred to the Pentagon. “The data they showed me from my Ministry of Defense,” he said without elaborating.
Palestinian groups blamed the explosion at the hospital to Israeli bombing, which Israel denies.
Namely, its army pointed out this Wednesday that there was no massacre, that the building was not destroyed, that it did not suffer serious damage, and that there was only a minor explosion in the neighboring parking lot caused by a failed rocket of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad group.
