Andrea and Kevin Griffin from Australia won a house worth $4.2 million in a lottery. They’re still not happy.

Actually, someone who just won a multi-million dollar mansion should be over the moon. But the couple Andrea and Kevin Griffin from Australia are angry. For a year, the couple paid a $20 monthly membership fee to the lottery company LMCT+, founded in 2018 by Adrian Portelli. Customers use their membership fees to participate in competitions where they can win houses, bicycles, cars and boats, among other things.

So far the couple had left empty-handed, but then they hit the jackpot. The Griffins win a $4.2 million house in Grisborne, northwest of Melbourne, in a lottery. But their happiness lasted only a short time. They are angry and even demand money from Portelli. Specifically: $102,000, as the “Herald Sun” reports.

Couple claims luxury items from promotional videos

Their accusation is that the expensive facility is lacking. According to the lottery’s promotional videos, they would also be entitled to a robot lawn mower, a treadmill and a barbecue smoker in the fully equipped house. Surveillance cameras allegedly show Portelli removing them from the home.

However, the lottery company boss doesn’t understand what all the fuss is about. The luxury extras were only used to stage the advertising videos. According to lottery guidelines, they are not part of the contest. Portelli is now accusing the Griffins of being ungrateful. He also posts videos of the key transfer on social media, in which the couple complains about the house.

“I would have been overjoyed”

The case caused outrage in Australia. “Australia’s biggest rental crisis – there are people winning a house for more money than some people make in their entire lives. And then they complain,” is one of the many reactions to a video in which the keys are handed over. “You could have given me the house without any furniture and I would have been over the moon,” wrote another.

“Unfortunately, it’s people like this who ruin things for everyone and make sure we don’t do things like this anymore,” Portelli added. However, the lottery company LMCT+ could face problems from another side: investigations are currently underway into alleged violations of gambling laws in two states due to various complaints. (gs)
