Ismail Haniya has been the leader of the Islamist terrorist organization Hamas since 2017.

Although the Israeli foreign secret service Mossad has been hunting him for years, he does not shy away from the light. He clearly feels safe, especially in his adopted home country of Qatar. So certain that Hamas leader Ismail Hanija (61) met the Iranian Foreign Minister in the Qatari capital Doha on Saturday. The meeting between Hanija and Tehran’s chief diplomat Hussein Amirabdollahian (59) took place late on Saturday evening, according to video footage from the Iranian state news agency Irna.

Qatar hosted the Football World Cup last year. The Arab country was awarded the contract to organize the Games because, according to FIFA, it is committed to an “integrative and non-discriminatory” World Cup.

Hamas protector Qatar

Qatar has been one of Hamas’s main supporters for fifteen years. The wealthy emirate on the Persian-Arab Gulf provides the Islamist movement with political support and financial support, for example in rebuilding infrastructure after Israeli attacks. Hanija herself lives in Qatar and Turkey.

At the same time, Qatar also plays an important role in mediation with the West. On Thursday, Chancellor Olaf Scholz (65) received the Qatari Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani (43) in Berlin.

Amirabdollahian arrived in Doha after meeting with allies during a trip to Iraq, Syria and Lebanon, including the secretary general of the Shiite organization Hezbollah, Hassan Nasrallah, 63. (kes/SDA)
