Who should pay on a first date is a controversial topic. While some people hold the traditional view that men should open their wallets, many people today no longer feel this is appropriate.
However, everyone probably agrees that it is unacceptable to leave without paying. That’s exactly what an American TikToker named Equana recently experienced during a date in Atlanta.
The man who saw them ran away without picking up the bill. That wasn’t so tight: in addition to drinks, the woman had ordered no fewer than 48 oysters. In the end, all the fun cost them $284, the equivalent of about 260 Swiss francs.
‘You invited me. So I will eat too”
She shared the story of her failed date on Tiktok – and it went viral. As Equana says in the video, the man had been trying to take her out for a while. So they met at Fontaine’s Oyster House – a restaurant they say has “the best oysters in Atlanta.”
The Tiktoker did not miss the opportunity to order a bowl of ten oysters upon arrival. She happily slurped down one oyster after another and immediately ordered another plate. However, it didn’t stop there: record numbers three and four followed.
“When the fourth plate came, he looked at me crazy,” says Equana. But that didn’t matter to her at all. “I said, ‘Honey, you invited me. So I’m going to eat too.”
He just wanted to invite her for a drink
The man seemed to have had enough of her slurping. He claimed he had to go to the toilet – and never returned. It wasn’t until half an hour later that Equana realized he was gone.
When she finally received the bill, she pressed the keys and sent him an angry text message: “Leaving without paying is madness.” But he didn’t let that go. “I offered to take you out for drinks and you ordered all the food. I can transfer the amount for the drinks.”
In the comments, users had a lot of fun with the failed date. While some mocked her slurping, others were amazed at her large appetite. (dzc)
