Following a threat of attack on a plane from the Iranian capital Tehran, flight operations at Hamburg airport (D) were completely halted on Monday. There have been no take-offs or landings in the northern German metropolis since 12:40 p.m., an airport spokeswoman told the German news agency on Monday.
A federal police spokesman said an email was received Monday morning threatening to attack the Tehran-Hamburg flight. The threat is being taken very seriously. He initially did not want to provide any further information about the background.
The plane landed in Hamburg around 12:20 p.m. It is currently located in a special area. The 198 passengers and 16 crew members have now left the plane and are being subjected to a security check in a separate room. The plane and luggage would be searched, it was said.
No major impact on Swiss flights
The Swiss airline Swiss is hardly affected by the closure of Hamburg Airport. According to the airline, there was only a delayed departure.
As a Swiss spokeswoman said on Monday at the request of the Keystone-SDA news agency, a flight to Hamburg departed in the early afternoon with a delay of about an hour. Swiss assumed that Hamburg airport would be open again by the time the flight arrived. For the remaining flights on Monday, Swiss planned a regular operation on Monday afternoon.
At around 2:15 p.m., the airport announced that flight operations had resumed. However, delays may still occur. (no)
