Andrea Kiewel experienced the attack on Israel firsthand.

Andrea Kiewel (58) has been living in Tel Aviv (Israel) for several years. She celebrated it with her loved ones on Friday evening. «And the next day suddenly nothing is the same anymore and there is war. “It is not a Hollywood film that is playing here, it is reality,” the shocked TV presenter describes her current situation to the newspaper ‘Bild’.

“Of course I’m scared, but I’m not thinking about running away,” says the East Berlin resident. And she adds: “When I came to Israel with my youngest son in 2017, I planted my heart in the ground here. I am Jewish myself and love this country so much that it has become my home.”

Her boyfriend wants to fight, she helps with food donations

Her Israeli boyfriend is a former elite soldier. “On Saturday he received a phone call, after which he took off his jeans and put on his uniform,” she describes the serious moment. “Nothing could stop him and he would fight for Israel to the end, even if it cost his life. All men and women here carry this love for their country with them, it is in their DNA,” Kiewel explains.

She explains her farewell to her partner from the “Jüdische Allgemeine”: “I stand on the street and wave at his car. I wave even after he has turned around for a long time. I wave and wave. And drown in my tears.”

She is constantly alert

In the meantime, she helps elsewhere. ‘I’m alert all day long. I used to be a lifeguard, and it keeps coming back to me. “Being there for others now is what keeps me stable,” she says.

Photos show her and many other volunteers taking food to a collection point. “We will all stick together now to get through this nightmare.” You can also see the T-shirt she is wearing, which is a little too big. «I wear my husband’s T-shirt because I constantly think about him and worry. “So it’s close to my heart,” she explains the moving background of this garment.

Andrea Kiewel: “Where was the army, where was the Mossad?”

For the German emigrant it is incomprehensible how this attack on Israel by the radical Islamic terrorist organization Hamas could have happened.

“I always wonder how it was possible that terrorists could just enter Israel with jeeps and motorcycles. In a country that has maintained constant defense preparedness since its founding and has the best security apparatus and the best secret services in the world,” she said in an interview with the tabloid. And: “Such an attack must have been planned! Where was the army, where was the Mossad? How is it possible that our soldiers can be surprised in their sleep and killed coldly?” (Spot-on/imh)
