On Saturday they just wanted to go home – Blick reported. Now they fear for their lives. A couple from Bern are trapped in a rain of bombs in Tel Aviv. Yesterday they hoped for an early escape from the city that was suddenly bombed by Hamas. “I am terrified now,” Swiss Sandra Diaz Perreira (31) told Blick early on Sunday.

“Last night was my biggest nightmare,” said the desperate woman from Berne in the Israeli metropolis, where they had had a perfect holiday until yesterday. Then, out of nowhere, the Hamas attack – and on Saturday evening, fear of death: “We had to run for our lives several times and take refuge in bunkers,” said Diaz Perreira. A rocket hit a few blocks away from the hotel. She and her partner Marc Hügli (41) just wanted out. But: “Like everyone else, we can’t fly home!”

Most airlines have suspended flights to Israel. Due to safety reasons, Switzerland has temporarily suspended air traffic to Tel Aviv from Saturday evening to Monday. Perreira and Hügli tried to get tickets. But “everything has been canceled or sold out,” according to the Bernese woman.

60 seconds before the missiles hit

On Saturday the situation was relatively more innocent. “Everything has become much worse,” the young Swiss woman said that evening. “I’ve never heard such loud bangs in my life!”

They ran for life and death, looking for protection. “We had 60 seconds between the sound of the sirens and the impact of a missile.”

They can no longer leave the hotel. Although Israeli forces carry out the first retaliatory attacks against Hamas, Tel Aviv continues to be bombed by the Islamists. The Islamists are scoring hits in the city center of the country’s commercial and economic center.
