Commander is said to have bitten eleven secret service employees.

The Biden family has sent the two-year-old German shepherd to an undisclosed location while they consider next steps for the animal, a White House spokeswoman said on Wednesday (local time). The channels CNN and Axios previously reported that Commander, who moved into the White House as a puppy in 2021, would have bitten more people than initially known.

The US Secret Service reported that 11 of its employees were bitten – but according to CNN, this number is higher, and other White House staff were also bitten. In one case, a victim even had to be treated in hospital.

“The safety of White House staff … is very important to the President and First Lady,” said Jill Biden’s spokeswoman, Elizabeth Alexander. “They are grateful for the patience and support of the U.S. intelligence community and all stakeholders as they continue to work toward solutions,” she added. “The commander is currently away from the White House grounds while next steps are evaluated,” Alexander said.

Another Biden German Shepherd, Major, made headlines with a biting incident after moving into the White House and was then temporarily sent to the US president’s private home in Delaware. Later he stayed with family friends. (AFP)
