Panic in Paris – although no bedbugs have been officially confirmed on public transport. Influencer provokes with selfie in front of temple – now fake news makes everything worse

The panic over the bedbug plague in Paris is now a topic across Europe. But: how bad is the situation in our French neighbor actually?

The drama started before the summer holidays, when a moviegoer complained that her back was covered in bites after a performance. Videos of subways and trains followed showing how the Animals the creatures from hell crawled over the chairs. The videos spread like wildfire on social media and eventually made international headlines.

He gave figures: the Paris transport company received 10 reports of the blood-sucking pests and the national railway company SNCF received 37 reports. According to Beaune, all cases have been checked and none have been found.

“If there is a problem, we will address it, we will not deny it. There have been no outbreaks of bedbugs on public transport.”

And what is the situation outside public transport? According to French newspaper Capital, a secondary school in Marseille and a primary school in Villefranche-sur-Saône are currently infested with bedbugs and have been temporarily closed for treatment.

Not a plague – but measures nonetheless

Dogs, on the other hand, can sniff out not only bed bugs, but even their laid eggs, bed bug expert Stefan Wellhausen tells Deutschlandfunk.
