A red Ferrari tries to overtake a mobile home at high speed on a straight stretch of road. At the same time, a blue Lamborghini tries to pass the van. The drivers miss each other and a horror crash takes place.
Zurichers Peter* (†67) and Therese F.* (†63) in the red Ferrari died at the scene of the accident. The South Tyrolean couple (62 and 61) in the camper and the occupants of the second sports car were unharmed. It was initially unknown who was in the blue Lamborghini. Now it is clear: Bollywood actress Gayatri Joshi (46) and her husband, construction magnate Vikas Oberoi (53) were in the car.
The actress confirmed the accident to the Indian Free Press Journal. “Yes, Vikas and I are in Italy and were involved in a multi-vehicle car accident here. God have mercy, we are both unharmed and fine.”
Vikas Oberoi himself gave more details about the accident: “Our car left the road and spun away,” he told the Times of India. But he also emphasized in the interview that not everyone involved was so lucky: “We were unharmed. However, two other people died.”
The famous couple was on a luxury car trip with the two Swiss and other tourists. During the three-day tour they wanted to drive from the south of the island to the north. Expensive fun: such trips can cost up to 25,000 francs, including hotel accommodation and luxury cars.
No problem for the Indian couple. Gayatri Joshi made her Bollywood debut in 2004. The film ‘Swades’, in which she played one of the lead roles, was highly praised by critics. After the film, Joshi decided to quit acting.
A year later she married Vikas Oberoi. He is the boss of a large Indian construction and real estate company. Oberoi also owns a hotel in Mumbai and is currently building a shopping mall and an office tower in the city center. The two have been married for almost twenty years. (jl)
