Biden believes Congress will continue to support aid to Ukraine

President of United States, Joe Bidenbelieves Congress will continue to approve aid Ukraine because he expects most Republicans to do so in consensus with Democrats, regardless of what happens with the leadership Kevin McCarthy in the House of Representatives.

“Regardless of what happens in the House of Representatives, the entire leadership of that House supports continued aid to Ukraine, and the vast majority of Republican members are in favor,” a security spokesman said at a White House news conference. John Kirby.

He added that those who are against maintaining that support are a “small and noisy minority” Republican representatives who “do not represent their party or its leadership.

In addition, Kirby assured that “none of the international leaders” with whom Biden spoke this Tuesday showed concern about the continuity of support for Ukraine by the United States, because “they understand what is happening on Capitol Hill”, with “a minority of Republican extremists” blocking help.

These leaders, he pointed out, “understand that the majority of the Republican leadership, both in the Senate and in the House of Representatives, supports Ukraine.”

Kirby made the comments after Biden spoke with several international leaders and pledged to continue aid to Ukraine, on a day when McCarthy remains in office. House of Representativeswhile facing a recall petition filed by ultraconservative congressman Matt Gaetz.

In any case, he insisted that the crisis in Congress was “not a topic” discussed in Biden’s conversations with other leaders, but “they all gave the impression of the president that they understood what was going on.”

Biden once again confirmed his commitment to Ukraine in these calls he had with the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen; President of the European Council Charles Michel; German Chancellor Olaf Scholz; and the Italian Prime Minister, Giorgio Meloni.

He also spoke with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and United Kingdom Prime Minister Rishi Sunak; with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg; with the Polish president, Andrzej Dudaand with the French Minister of Foreign Affairs, Catherine Colonna.

John Kirby wanted to make it clear that “under no circumstances” could the United States be allowed to end its aid to Ukraine. “Time is not our ally,” said the White House spokesman, who insisted that Congress must understand that battlefield aid cannot be stopped now.

He dismissed the data from some surveys that assure that the majority of Americans have stopped supporting the continuity of aid, and he is convinced that the citizens know “what is at stake, the sovereignty of a country, its independence”, and they also understand that it goes beyond Ukrainian borders.

“This is about the security of much of the European continent,” said Kirby, who added that helping Ukraine also “strengthens” U.S. national security because “countering” (Vladimir) Putin’s ability to invade a neighboring country “prevents” and ” a major conflict” in which “American troops may be needed”.
