Due to death threats: another concert in Mexican border town canceled Because of these creepy crawlies, Paris is currently in panic

A concert in the Mexican border city of Tijuana has been canceled again due to death threats from a suspected drug cartel. The American-Mexican group Fuerza Regida, which recently released the song “El Jefe” with Colombian pop star Shakira, has decided not to perform in the city on the US border, local security chief José Fernández said on Milenio TV channel on Tuesday.

The rapper Peso Pluma had previously made the same decision. This has in common with Fuerza Regida the glorification of drug lords in some songs. The threats could come from rival criminal groups, Fernández said.

In Tijuana, which borders the Californian city of San Diego, the Sinaloa cartel and the Cártel Jalisco Nueva Generación (CJNG) are fighting each other for territory. Some songs by Fuerza Regida and Peso Pluma, which itself is from Sinaloa, contain allusions to the Sinaloa cartel. Both were reportedly threatened by the CJNG on handwritten posters that appeared on the streets of Tijuana. If they perform in Tijuana as planned in the coming days, their concerts would be the last of their lives, it was said.

So-called ‘narco music’ about drugs, guns and money is widespread in some regions of Mexico. This mix of regional Mexican music, rap and trap often glorifies drug gangs. The songs of 24-year-old Peso Pluma are especially popular among young people. The singer celebrated his American television debut in April during host Jimmy Fallon’s ‘Tonight Show’. (sda/dpa)
