Chicago’s Dorothy Hoffner wants to become the world’s oldest female skydiver.

The crowd cheers as Dorothy Hoffner (104) lands safely on the ground. Several reporters gathered in northern Illinois to watch the senior attempt to break her world record. The elderly person quickly gets up and grabs her walker, which she left on the ground. “Age is just a number,” she tells her viewers, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Hoffner knew what she was getting into. Because it wasn’t her first skydive; she had already ventured into the air once at the age of 100. However, at that point she said she had to be pushed off the plane. Last Sunday she wanted to take the plunge herself from a height of 4,100 meters – together with a professional skydiver.

Next project: hot air balloon

But at 100 years old, she wasn’t the oldest woman to ever jump out of a plane with a parachute. In May 2022, the 103-year-old Swede Linnéa Larsson entered the Guinness Book of Records. But the Chicago woman now wants to claim this entry for herself. As broadcaster WLS-TV reports, Skydive Chicago is currently trying to get the Guinness Book to officially confirm Hoffner’s world record.

The senior will turn 105 in December. Reason enough to take it easy? Dorothy Hoffner doesn’t even think about it. She told the Chicago Tribune that she could definitely imagine a third jump or even a ride in a hot air balloon: “I’ve never been in one.” (gs)
