The red Ferrari drives over the solid line on the straight two-lane road and accelerates strongly. He apparently effortlessly leaves two Lamborghinis behind him and also wants to pass a third Italo car and a camper. Then it happens: the dark car also starts to overtake, while apparently not seeing the approaching red car. The sports cars meet. The Lamborghini then crashes into the side of the rear of the camper. The vehicle, which weighs several tons, tips over. The blue Lamborghini ends up in the ditch. The red Ferrari is thrown off the road, overturns and catches fire.

The consequences of the accident that took place in San Giovanni Suergiu on national road 195 to Sulcitana and of which a dashcam video is circulating on social media: The occupants of the Ferrari, Peter* (†67) and Therese F.* (†63) from the Canton of Zurich , are dead, they perished in the flames. The tourists in the camper and the two Lamborghini occupants, two Indians from Mumbai, escape more or less unscathed. According to police, none of them were seriously injured.

Dashcam video shows horror accident

Peter and Therese F. traveled to Sardinia especially for the luxury car rally and stayed at the 4-star Hotel Forte Village Resort in Santa Margherita di Pula. Cost per night for two people: between 500 and 800 francs. They had rented the Ferrari for the so-called ‘Sardinia Supercar Experience’, a three-day tour from the south of the island to Olbia in the north.

The rental for a Ferrari in Sardinia is typically 900 to 1000 euros per day. Competing providers often charge between 10,000 and 25,000 francs for their trips, including hotel accommodation and cars. The column had left Teulada on Monday morning and was due to reach Porto Flavia in the town of Masua, where the drivers would have lunch.

The dashcam recording described is possible from one of the participants in the rally. It shows the overtaking phase of the Ferrari, the impact with the Lamborghini and then the collision with the camper. According to the Sardinia Post, the video, which lasts only a few seconds, is being viewed by judicial authorities and could help reconstruct the tragedy. The remains of the Ferrari, the Lamborghini and the camper were seized.
