Tom Hanks warns about AI advertising: “I have nothing to do with it” Slovakia: Fico’s left-wing national Smer wins parliamentary elections

American actor Tom Hanks (67) has warned his fans about a promotional video in which an AI copy of him was allegedly used without his knowledge. “Be careful,” the two-time Oscar winner (“Philadelphia,” “Forrest Gump”) wrote on Instagram on Saturday (local time). A video is circulating promoting dental care using an artificially created image of him. “I have nothing to do with it,” the Hollywood star emphasized. His text on Instagram was accompanied by a computer-generated image showing Hanks.

The actor, who recently starred in films such as ‘Elvis’, ‘A Man Called Otto’ and ‘Asteroid City’, spoke about the dangers and possibilities of artificial intelligence (AI) in an interview last May. On the podcast “The Adam Buxton,” Hanks said it was now possible for him to continue acting even after his death. AI technology can also make him younger or older. These technologies pose an artistic and a legal challenge. Hanks went on to say that unions, agencies and advocates are struggling with how to protect the voices and faces of artists.

The strike of American actors and actresses in Hollywood that has been going on since July also concerns rules for the use of AI. Authors’ union WGA (Writers Guild of America) recently reached a provisional agreement with the film studios after a strike of almost five months. The new employment contract guarantees the screenwriters, among other things, higher salaries and insurance for the use of artificial intelligence. (sda/dpa)
