Nicolás Petro Burgosthe first-born son of the Colombian president, Gustavo Petro, has revealed that his father knew about the alleged irregular money that went into the campaign that helped him win the 2022 election.
This is clear from the publication that Semana magazine made this Saturday about the video recordings of the interrogation at the Prosecutor’s Office in which Petro Burgos indicated that his father “knew perfectly” that Euclides Torres, a businessman from Barranquilla, “was the one who financed the campaign.” .
“I mentioned it to him several times, he knew (…) When we traveled to events, (now senator) Pedro Flórez always went, so he and I talked about the funding that Euclides was funding,” he said during the procedure that was held on August 2before he was summoned to trial and terminated his cooperation with the Prosecutor’s Office.
This financing is clearly illegal because it was not reported to the National Electoral Council (CNE), according to the president’s son.
Petro Burgos assured that he is a former ambassador Colombia in Venezuela, Armando Benedetti, who was the current president’s right-hand man during the campaign, always “stressed” to Petra in his presence that “Euclid was the one who financed the events”.
“When he arrived in the campaign, (Benedetti) always told us that he secured the money, that he asked for the money and that he got the money through Euclides, but the person who channeled those resources was Pedro Flórez,” added the son of the head of state .
Euclides Torres, according to research by the digital media La Silla Vacía, It is about an entrepreneur who heads a clan in charge of issuing concessions for public lighting in 15 municipalities in the country, through “business camouflage”.
Last Monday, the prosecutor’s office filed an indictment against Peter’s son for illicit enrichment and money laundering, for which he will be tried.
Petro Burgos was arrested on July 29, accused of illicit enrichment and money laundering, but he made a cooperation agreement with Justice that allowed him to respond to the process in freedom, but apparently he did not fulfill that obligation.
