In order to be undisturbed with his loved one a little longer, Australian Paul I.* (35) quickly faked his own kidnapping. Not only did he cause a large police presence, he even risked a lawsuit.
Unfortunately, his lie was eventually exposed. As Sky News Australia reports, the man from the city of Wollongong in New South Wales has now been convicted of the action.
A few carefree hours
This all happened late last year. To be precise: the man wanted to spend a few carefree hours with his loved one on New Year’s Eve.
The 35-year-old told his girlfriend at home that he was going to meet his ‘finance man’. But in the evening I wanted to spend more time with his beloved. To buy time, he sent his girlfriend a text message in which an alleged kidnapper demanded a ransom from her.
“Thank you for sending Paul to me, now revenge is a damn goodbye. We’ll keep him with us until morning. If he gives us his expensive bike, we’ll be even,” the message said, according to the station. My girlfriend was so concerned that she immediately called the police, and officers immediately started an investigation.
Everything exploded
The Australian’s lie team increasingly became his downfall. After me and his lover were picked up by a police patrol, everything was discovered. Even at that point, the man still claimed he had been kidnapped by a group of Middle Eastern men, but they later released him.
Twelve days later, the imposter was arrested and charged with feigning a crime and making false statements.
“Disgusting” pretext
I had to appear in Wollongong District Court on Tuesday. He was ordered by the judge to repay about $10,000 to the state government for 200 hours of police work.
The judge ruled that the pretext was ‘appalling’. He has no understanding of the motive.
The man’s lawyer said in a statement that his client has made tremendous progress since committing the crime. “He continues to enjoy the support of his family and his partner and wants to continue his life as a productive member of society.” (dzc/ene)
