Top Kosovo-Serbian politician Radoicic admits to attacking police officers Macron holds out the prospect of autonomy for Corsica

Kosovo’s top Serbian politician and businessman Milan Radoicic has claimed responsibility for the attack by an armed commando group in northern Kosovo five days ago.

“I decided to do this because all the methods of resistance used so far have not brought any improvement in the lives of the Serbian people (in Kosovo),” he wrote in a statement read to the press in Belgrade by his lawyer on Friday. At the same time, he announced that he would resign as vice-chairman of the Serbian List, the party of Kosovo Serbs. Radoicic’s current whereabouts are unknown.

A heavily armed Serbian commando group of 30 men took positions in the town of Banjska near Mitrovica on Sunday and fought with Kosovo police. At least three Serb attackers and a Kosovo police officer were killed. In his statement, Radoicic claimed that he carried out the action on his own initiative and had not informed any official body in Serbia about it. After the heavy fighting, NATO announced it would strengthen the Kfor protection force it led. (sda/dpa)
