Climate change will “now occur largely unchecked, meaning that massive changes to our planet can no longer be avoided,” said a joint statement on Wednesday at the start of the renowned trade event. The German Weather Service (DWD), among others, participates in this.

The climate agreement has effectively failed

The pace of warming is increasing
According to the DWD, this happened against the background of increasing global warming. The chairman of the German Meteorological Association, Frank Böttcher, called on politicians and society to honestly assess the situation and take decisive countermeasures. “Let’s put an end to the illusion that we have made an important contribution to climate protection over the past thirty years. Many have done a lot. “But we are still far from a decline in the concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.”
He pointed to other observations such as increasing extreme precipitation, shrinking ice areas and an “unprecedented rapid rise in global air and water temperatures.” Humanity is still unclear about the dimensions of the climate change it has initiated.
According to his own statements, the researcher saw a way out in a fundamental change in consumer decisions.
