The world football association FIFA is said to be planning to move around a hundred jobs, including the legal department, from its headquarters in Zurich to Miami. A source familiar with the matter told the French news agency AFP on Tuesday.
“FIFA is a global leadership body and certain departments have been informed of a planned move to its new permanent headquarters in Miami,” the association said when requested by news agency Keystone-SDA and AFP, partially confirming the information.
This is in line with the global vision of an organization with 211 member associations, the report said. The new offices in Miami and Singapore would complement the Paris location and regional offices worldwide. FIFA’s headquarters will remain in Zurich, the association also announced.
Strategic location
According to the source, the legal department in particular will move to Miami. The city in the southern US state of Florida is strategically interesting due to its proximity to the 41 member associations of CONCACAF, the North and Central American Association. In addition, there would be an easy connection with South America.
The football association had already moved some of its functions from its headquarters in Paris. FIFA recently opened a new office in Miami. It is intended to simplify the organization of the 2026 World Cup, which will take place in the US, Canada and Mexico. The United States will also host the Club World Cup in 2025.
The World Football Association was founded in Paris in 1904. In 1932 he moved to Zurich. In 2007, the Zurich location became the headquarters. (sda/afp)
