About 4,000 soldiers took part in the military show in the capital Seoul on Tuesday, the South Korean Defense Ministry said. Modern weapon systems were also presented, including rockets, cruise missiles and military drones. The reason for the postponed military parade was the 75th Armed Forces Day, which falls on October 1.

Before the parade began, South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol warned neighboring North Korea against using nuclear weapons in a conflict during a ceremony at a military air base south of Seoul. In such a case, “the regime will end through an overwhelming response from South Korea’s alliance with the United States,” Yoon said.

He followed the US military strategy. The Pentagon presented it almost a year ago. The strategy includes a warning to North Korea that leader Kim Jong Un’s government would not survive the use of nuclear weapons against the US or its partners. North Korea, considered hostile by the United States, is subject to international sanctions because of its nuclear weapons program.

300 of the 28,500 American soldiers stationed in South Korea also marched in the military parade. Although it was raining, large crowds followed the procession of soldiers and military vehicles through the center of the metropolis.

The heavy weapons on display also included battle tanks and other armored vehicles, as well as artillery. Due to the weather, organizers have decided not to hold a flying demonstration with fighter jets and other aircraft.
