An unusual chase took place in the US state of Florida. Police officers stopped a white sedan that had been reported stolen at 3:50 a.m. Thursday and ordered the occupants at gunpoint to get out. But the authorities did not expect that: a ten-year-old boy and his eleven-year-old sister got out of the car.
The siblings were stopped in Alachua, a town 200 miles (320 kilometers) from the siblings’ home, the BBC reports. The mother had reported her children and the car missing hours earlier. The police pulled out the gun because they suspected thieves had stolen the car.
The two runaways were on their way to California. “Both children were angry with their mother because she had taken away their electronic devices,” the police officer explained. The children then got into their mother’s sedan and left. Authorities say there is no evidence that the children were mistreated at home.
“Mother does her best”
The single mother drove three hours to Alachua to pick up her two children. “Our investigators have spoken extensively with the mother, who is clearly doing her best to raise two young children,” the police officer said.
In Florida, you are allowed to obtain an “learner’s license” at age 15. You can only obtain a valid driver’s license from the age of 18. (jwg)
