Everyone knows this moment: you are sitting on the toilet – and you realize too late that the paper roll is empty. It is understandable to describe this as a “toilet emergency”. But is that why you immediately call the emergency services? A woman in Vienna recently did just that.
“This operation was a grab for the toilet,” the city of Vienna wrote on news portal X, formerly Twitter. When emergency services arrived, the lady simply asked for new toilet paper.
Only call the emergency number in an emergency
As the online portal meine.at reports, emergency calls about such minor things are not unusual. A paralyzed woman once called 911 around 10 p.m. so someone could open a window in her apartment. A few hours later she called again and asked if her window could be closed again.
In a report, the portal writes that such incidents “take up the workload of already busy paramedics and leave them less time for real emergencies.” That is why a spokesperson for the Vienna Professional Rescue Service asks the population to call the emergency number only in the event of a real emergency.
