New Yorker Kacie Rose spontaneously decided to travel alone to Italy in 2018.

It was supposed to be a journey of self-discovery, but in the end everything turned out differently: American Kacie Rose (29) booked a solo trip to Italy in 2018 and met the love of her life on the first day. During the Corona pandemic, she left her life in America behind and moved to Florence – and has not regretted it for a moment.

Rose’s story sounds like the plot of ‘Eat, Pray, Love’ with Julia Roberts (55) – but it’s true. Five years ago, the New Yorker decided to travel to Italy. She had actually always been waiting to travel with a partner, but eventually wanderlust got to her and she spontaneously decided to embark on the adventure alone.

The decision would turn her life upside down.

On her first night in Florence, she walked into a bar where Dario Nencetti, 31, immediately caught her attention. “I walked in and he was there. “Time has stood still,” Rose told CNN. Their eyes met and from then on they spent every minute together. Until she traveled to Rome.

But Rose was in love. “I met my future husband,” she wrote to her best friend. Nencetti and Rose spoke on the phone every evening until she had to return to the United States. The young couple started a long-distance relationship – despite the miles and time difference. “Every goodbye was difficult,” says the American.

Nencetti got a job as a chef in New York and moved to America for a year. The visa expired in 2020. The couple faced a difficult decision: start a long-distance relationship again – or move to Italy.

Emigrated during pandemic

The former dancer decided to turn her back on her life in the US. “Everything came together somehow,” Rose says. Her lease for the New York apartment also expired. The American emigrated in the middle of the corona pandemic – and did not regret it. She found a language school where she taught online classes and started posting TikTok videos. In one of the videos, she shared her life-changing love story. The video went viral. Rose now has 62 million likes on TikTok.

The beginning in Italy was anything but easy, as many restrictions were still in place in Italy due to the pandemic. «I still remember the first time I went to the cathedral. And it was empty,” says Rose. Nencetti’s family immediately welcomed Rose with open arms.

Nencetti now has his own restaurant in Florence, the place where the two met. Rose founded a travel company that organizes city trips through Italy. She recently published her own travel guide with all the tips for Italy. “I love the life we have created for ourselves here,” she says. And: “We live in a beautiful place, with delicious food.”

Happy coincidence

The couple has settled in Florence, but can also imagine traveling further afield. “I’m not nervous about what the future holds. Because I have you,” Rose tells Nencetti.

“So many things had to happen before we could meet, but it really happened,” Rose says of the fateful meeting. The American is sure: “You never really know what life has in store for you. There are so many good things waiting for you. You just have to trust it.” (jwg)
