EU wants to impose sanctions on 16 people and organizations in Iran

They have been cracking down on the protests for weeks, the news portal “The Pioneer” reported Monday. Among them is the Iranian moral police.

Iran has been rocked by violent protests for a month. They were triggered by the death of the young Kurd Mahsa Amini. The 22-year-old died on September 16 in Tehran after being arrested by vice squad three days earlier on charges of not wearing her headscarf in accordance with strict regulations.

German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock announced a week ago that the federal government would ensure “that the EU imposes entry bans on those responsible for this brutal repression and will freeze their assets in the EU”.

EU foreign ministers will meet in Luxembourg on Monday for consultations. In addition to the military training mission for Ukraine, it must also deal with tightened sanctions against Iran.
