Messe Osdorp was closed earlier after harassment, aggression and police allegations
The municipality of Amsterdam closed the Osdorp fair three hours earlier after ongoing unrest in the area. Yesterday and today there were illegal firecrackers, fights and aggression towards helpers. Therefore, it was decided to close the fair at 7 p.m. instead of 10 p.m. Because things remained turbulent after closing time, the police carried out investigations.
Just like yesterday, firecrackers were thrown at the officers tonight. A local resident told NH Nieuws that popping noises could be heard throughout the evening. The police inform the regional broadcaster that one person has been arrested for the time being.
Fair manager Frans Stuy tells the city broadcaster AT5 that he is very sorry that the fair was closed earlier, but emphasizes that he does not blame the police and the municipality. “I’ve been here for 35 years and have passed through all generations. Something really happened in those years, but never like this.”
First searched
Stuy had taken action following last weekend’s riots. For example, only one entrance and one emergency exit were open, where previously the site could be entered from several points. “And for the first time in 35 years, we searched today. I was always against a fair with fences and searches. That always went well until this weekend,” said the fair owner.
The fair in Osdorp is there until next Sunday. Stuy hopes to stay open a little longer in the coming days. “I’m willing to put up cameras and increase security even more, even if I have to make up for it myself and it will cost a fortune. So I don’t blame the police and the community, but I have a chance to do it. “Fuck it,” he says.
