Doctors at the Brescia hospital announced on Saturday that the 65-year-old was able to breathe and speak independently again. It is possible that the pilot will soon be transferred to a Swiss hospital in his home region of Graubünden. He was expected to be questioned as part of Sondrio’s prosecutor’s ongoing investigation into the accident.

The accident involving the helicopter of a Salzburg company took place on September 5 in the Valtellina Valley in the mountains of Lombardy at an altitude of 1,700 meters. Two Italian flight assistants were on board during the crash and were injured, but have since been released from hospital.

The five-seater Airbus H-125 helicopter took off from Livigno and was scheduled to fly to Caiolo in the Lombardy province of Sondrio. He crashed in the darkness for unknown reasons. The rescue work was difficult because the crash area was difficult to reach by land. An investigation has been launched into the cause of the crash.
