Five hundred Russian soldiers threaten the Kremlin to withdraw from the front in Ukraine.

The Ukrainian army has been pushing the Russian aggressors back further and further for weeks, and the Russian army is struggling with a lack of personnel and material: the frustration of the Russian soldiers at the front is therefore great. So big that some soldiers even threaten to withdraw.

A video published on the pro-Ukrainian Telegram channel “Supernova Plus” would prove this. It shows several soldiers in Russian uniforms standing in a stable or barn. It is unclear exactly when and where the video was recorded.

Soldiers want to refuse service at the front

One of the men reads from a sheet of paper. He addressed his words on behalf of his accomplices to Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin (70) and Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu (68). According to the soldier, they are part of the 108th Motorized Rifle Brigade, which has been active since August 25 in eastern Ukraine’s Donetsk Oblast near Bakhmut, near the city of Klishchyivka.

Klishchiyivka was liberated by the Ukrainian army on Friday, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky (45). He made this known in a video message shortly after the nearby town of Andriivka was recaptured.

The reason, according to the Russian soldiers in the video: there was no air or artillery support, no defensive measures. This resulted in “colossal losses,” the soldier said. Up to 75 percent of his unit was killed or wounded. Now he and 500 other soldiers are threatening to end their service.

According to a Ukrainian intelligence report, around 100 Russians are arrested and convicted every week for refusing to serve in the war. The British Ministry of Defense estimates that there will soon be around 5,200 convictions of Russian soldiers avoiding war each year.

There is fear in Russia

The soldiers in the video thus join the many Russian critics of the war. Even pro-Russian military bloggers are slowly but surely doubting Russia’s success in Ukraine.

“The front is collapsing,” was heard on Wednesday evening on ‘Alex Parker Returns’ – a channel that repeatedly reports on the situation of the Russians at the front. Apparently there is a fear that Ukrainian forces could soon take control of the particularly hotly contested city of Bakhmut: if things continue like this, the city will “soon have to be given up.”

Although the Russian army is trying hard to slow Ukrainian progress, the Ukrainian counter-offensive is still in full swing. Experts agree: Ukraine could soon achieve some significant successes. (chs)
