There was a lot to do on Monday in the Seerheincenter shopping center in Konstanz (D). After employees of a textile store noticed the smell of smoke on Monday around 2 p.m., the police and fire brigade arrived on the scene with a large contingent. This was reported by the Konstanz police station.
Due to the suspicion of fire, the emergency services ordered an immediate evacuation of the shopping center. According to the police, several hundred people had to leave the building.
Cause of burning smell found
Despite an intensive search and checking of the ventilation system, the police were unable to detect a fire, it was said. Instead of a fire, emergency services eventually found a charred piece of cake in a store. This had previously been heated in a microwave and, according to the police, was probably responsible for the burning smell.
Around 3:20 p.m., the fire brigade and police were able to reopen the Seerheincenter for residents and customers. (dzc)
