“Go to bed now”: Confused Biden hesitates and promises himself at press event

Joe Biden, US President, at the press conference in Vietnam.

Biden met with Communist Party Secretary General Nguyen Phu Trong in Vietnam on Sunday – and the appointment took a little longer than planned. When the 80-year-old Biden later appeared before the press, he often misunderstood himself, spoke slowly and often did not understand the questions. He blamed it on a fan.

After answering the last scheduled question, Biden said, “I don’t know about you, but I’m going to bed now.” Then he held the lectern and said, “Let’s see, I’ll just follow the instructions here.”

Biden’s age causes discussion

As reporters shouted questions into the room, Biden continued to speak. Finally, his press spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre formally interrupted him and terminated the appointment. The White House initially did not provide a reason for the postponement. Biden had previously traveled to Vietnam from the G20 summit in New Delhi.

Biden is the oldest American president ever and is seeking a second term. His age has long been a subject of discussion. Competitors from the Republican ranks regularly use mistakes and minor missteps to question his mental and physical fitness. (SDA)
