The two mountaineers set off without oxygen, mountain carriers and a fixed rope. N. returned to base camp with third-degree frostbite, it said. He was then taken to hospital by helicopter.

G. and N. are among the best mountaineers in Russia and have already received several awards. The K2 was the first mountain at 8000 meters.

Body cannot be recovered

According to the Pakistani newspaper “Dawn”, the two men had previously been awarded the famous Piolet ‘Or for their mountaineering achievements. According to the authorities, the body is still on the mountain. A special team is preparing for the recovery next weekend.

Fatal accidents happen again and again in the Pakistani mountains and neighboring countries in the Himalayas. About a month ago, the death of Pakistani mountain porter Mohammed Hassan on the eight-thousander K2 in Pakistan sparked outrage in the industry. After videos emerged showing him alive at the scene of the accident, allegations of failure to render aid were leveled, particularly against mountaineers. (jwg/SDA)
