Burning Man 2023: What remains is the gloating.

It was hell for the 70,000 visitors to the Burning Man Festival 2023. One thing above all for the rest of the world: pure gloating. The sheer delight of watching influencers, celebrities, jet setters and the top 10,000 kids sink into the mud.

Because yes, Burning Man is a metaphor for American class society in so many ways. Or, to put it another way, how many working-class Mexicans go to Burning Man? Even.

Actually, the Burning Man Festival sees itself as a utopian alternative world in which everyone helps each other and money does not count. Ticket prices, meanwhile, range from $525 to $2,750. According to statistics, the average income of Burning Man viewers is $95,000. Guys like Elon Musk (“If you’ve never been there, you don’t get it!”) are not uncommon.

Exactly: a place where rich people go to pretend to be poor.

And those same people eventually wanted out (eventually after sharing a few stuck videos on social media).
Yes, you can imagine how well that worked:

It is of course not surprising that quite a few visitors did not come with the most suitable vehicle.

And those who showed up with the fat 4×4 didn’t know how to handle it.

Here’s perhaps the saddest car at Burning Man – this poor Jetta traveled a full 20 yards before being left standing for days:

You may not see it in the picture, but this truck is stuck. Moreover, apparently in the middle of an intersection. Bravo.

“But wise, Burning Man is super liberating and creative!” The creativity:

Congratulations! You can add “stuck in the mud at Burning Man” to the long list of everything that’s terrible about #VanLife. Gentrified homelessness, sort of.

A large number of visitors followed the instructions of the weather service to stay where they were. Well, not all.

The weather conditions have now improved and the return journey (in traffic jam) can begin…

Bonus:

Okay, on a positive note at the end: yes, sometimes a lot of horsepower (707 units, in the case of this Ram TRX truck) is the answer:

Nevertheless: Burning Man 2024 – what remains is the merriment.
