Israeli Foreign Minister Cohen Opens Embassy in Bahrain First Lady Jill Biden Tested Negative for Corona – US President

Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen opened the Israeli embassy at its new permanent location in the capital Manama on Monday during his first visit to Bahrain. His Bahraini counterpart, Abdullatif al-Sajani, also attended the opening. The embassy was previously housed in temporary offices.

“Bahrain is convinced that dialogue and diplomatic solutions are essential to resolve regional and international disputes,” Bahrain’s state news agency BNA said in a statement released after the meeting.

According to media reports, a previously planned visit by Cohen to Bahrain was canceled due to a controversial visit by Israeli Police Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir to the Temple Mount (Al-Haram al-Sharif) in Jerusalem in July.

In September 2020, Israel, brokered by the US, agreed to establish diplomatic relations with the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain. Morocco and Sudan also announced such steps afterwards. Previously, only two Arab states – Egypt and Jordan – maintained relations with Israel

The then Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett visited Bahrain last year. Former Foreign Minister Jair Lapid inaugurated the Israeli Embassy at its temporary site in September 2021. (sda/dpa)
