Olaf the pirate

Most memes portray Scholz as a pirate. A user shows the Social Democrats as politicians of the Pirate Party. The party posted a picture of the chancellor with the pirate logo on Monday afternoon and wrote: “We are chancellor.”

Allusions to political developments can also be found in the social networks. One user writes about Scholz’s photo: “Now officially blind in the right eye.”

Political allusions

The “ZDF Today Show” featured the chancellor. The social media team put a second eye patch on Scholz’s eye and wrote about it: “Scholz always argues when the traffic light is on.” An allusion to the recurring disagreements within the traffic light coalition.

The original message already had nearly 6,000 responses late Monday afternoon, including many recovery wishes. The Federal Chancellery had published the photo on Instagram.

Meanwhile, individual requests to speak have a cynical undertone. One user writes: “If you forget half, you only have to see half”. This sentence is probably intended as an allusion to the Cum-Ex scandal, a major tax fraud involving the Hamburg private bank MM Warburg. Scholz, who was still mayor of Hamburg at the time of the scandal, claimed in a commission of inquiry that he could not remember any important meetings and telephone conversations with the bankers.

On Saturday it was announced that Scholz had suffered bruises in his face in a jogging accident. The politician then canceled all his appointments for the weekend. (A)
