The weather is bad for visitors to this year’s Burning Man festival in the US. The nine-day cultural event in the Nevada desert sinks into the mud. For more than 70,000 visitors, the festival turned into a horror trip this year. The police are even investigating a death. Photos show the dramatic size. Now presenter Sonya Kraus, who saw the drama live, will speak.

Devastating rainfall turned the dry desert into a muddy landscape. The entire festival site was destroyed, paths were flooded, tents were destroyed. Many visitors were stuck because arriving and leaving was no longer possible. The organizers even called on social media to save food, water and fuel. Those who wanted to leave the festival had to walk a long way – through muddy ground.

Sonya Kraus reports on Burning Man

On Monday, moderator Sonya Kraus shared a video on Instagram in which you can see her wrapped and hooded in the Nevada desert. The wind whistles so loud you can barely hear it. It’s raining, it’s freezing cold. The world is going down”she tells her followers as she walks through the mud in goggles and a cloth mask.

In her Instagram story, she shares more impressions of her visit to Burning Man, showing how campers get stuck in the mud and have to be towed away. She seems out of breath because she says she has to wade through mud for about four miles to get to the exit – with luggage!

Presenter suspects weight loss

But she can also get something positive out of it: “Everyone helps each other,” she tells her followers. Sonya Kraus has her doubts whether the 2024 festival can take place as usual. The reason was “completely destroyed,” she says, looking at the muddy ground.

A little later, the presenter speaks again in her story. She has now arrived at the Reno airport and has exchanged storm and rain for bright sunshine. “I think I lost ten pounds yesterday,” she announces with a laugh, looking back at her mud walk.
