He pope Francis He reiterated “zero tolerance” in the face of the “huge scourge” of cases of abuse by the Catholic hierarchy, at the same time assuring that the Church is “open to everyone, including homosexuals” and that “then everyone chooses God in their own way.”
The pope’s statements were made at a press conference on the plane he was returning from his trip to Lisbon to participate in the World Youth Day (WYD).
“Everyone chooses God for his path and the Church guides him. I don’t like saying yes to some and no to others. Everyone is looking for a way forwardsaid Francis.
And he added that “you can’t say no to homosexuals” and yes to others because “the Lord is clear, he doesn’t distinguish between sick and healthy, old and young, handsome and ugly”. “This is not a company that needs to be authorized to enter,” he added.
“I don’t like discounts, it’s not Christian,” he said.
In a recent interview with the Spanish magazine “Vida Nueva”, Francisco reiterated that “transsexuals are children of God”.
“The Gospel is for everyone. It is a principle that moves me a lot and that is my philosophy. Jesus says: ‘Go and bring all to me, the healthy and the sick, the righteous and the sinners.’ To all. And here everyone comes. If the Church does not have what Jesus taught it, it is not the Church. Everyone must feel inside, be welcome inside. We cannot give up on that, because the Lord taught us”, says the Pope in this interview.
And he added: “For this reason, I am not worried that someone will throw me in the face that I receive on Wednesdays at the general audience for transsexuals.”
On the other hand, at the press conference, Francisco responded to cases of abuse in Portugal, where a recent report showed that in 70 years there were up to 4,800 cases of abuse of minors by members of the Church.
He recalled that he discreetly met a group of victims in Lisbon during a trip and they talked “about this enormous scourge of the Church”.
“It makes me feel good to listen to the victims because makes me want to download this dramauntil”, he stated.
