Explosions again in the center of Kyiv, suspected by drone attacks

The Ukrainian capital Kyiv has again been hit by explosions. Mayor Vitali Klitschko said several explosions could be heard in the center. He says several apartment complexes were damaged and rescue workers are at the scene.

According to the authorities, these are attacks by Russia with so-called kamikazedrons. They carry dozens of pounds of explosives and fly towards a pre-programmed target.

NOS reporter Wessel de Jong is in Kyiv and says the explosions were right in the middle:

“Around 5:30 a.m. Dutch time, the air raid alarm went off,” De Jong said in a statement NOS Radio 1 News. “A few minutes later, heavy explosions followed.” He sees images of a large fire passing due to the explosions.

There were three explosions this morning. Later, explosions were heard again. Mayor Klitschko speaks of two new explosions.

De Jong also reports that shots appeared to have been fired again near the main train station, near an electricity plant.

As a result, the power supply in Kyiv has become “somewhat more complicated,” he says on the radio. “People have been urged to cut spending. Kyiv is pretty dark at night right now.”

A week ago Kyiv was also hit by attacks. At least five people were killed and 51 people injured.
