As the police announced in a statement, Campbell visited Martha’s Vineyard Island on Sunday, where the Obamas also have their properties. However, they weren’t there. He then entered the water with a paddleboard nearby.

A distress call was later made because “a male paddleboarder entered the water, then appeared to struggle to stay afloat, then dived underwater and never surfaced again.” The search for Campbell began, but it was not until 10 a.m. the next morning that divers found him “about 100 feet from shore at a depth of about 8 feet.”

After the tragic death of their chief, the Obamas released a statement:

“When we first met him, he was a talented sous chef at the White House – creative and passionate about food and his ability to bring people together.”

In the years that followed, they got to know him as “a warm, funny and extremely friendly person”. That’s why they asked Campbell at the time if he wanted to continue working for them after Barack Obama resigned as president and left the White House. “He has been a part of our lives ever since and it breaks our hearts that he is gone.” Campbell is survived by his wife and twin sons.
