In the gigantic trial of the terrorist attack in Brussels in 2016, the guilt or innocence of the defendants is expected to be decided this Tuesday (2 p.m.). After more than two weeks of deliberation by the jury and the judge, the conviction must be announced, a court spokesperson said on Monday evening. The sentence should not be determined until September.
The terrorist attacks of 22 March 2016 at Zaventem airport and a metro station in the Belgian capital killed 32 people and injured 340.
A total of ten men have been charged with the Brussels attacks. It is believed that one of them has now probably died in Syria. Eight defendants are charged with 32 counts of terrorist murder, attempted terrorist murder of 695 people and involvement in the activities of a terrorist organization. The prosecution only accuses the ninth of the third point.
In a series of attacks on 13 November 2015 in Paris, extremists killed 130 people and injured 350 others. The attacks in Paris and Brussels were conceived by the same terrorist cell. That is why six of those convicted in Paris are also on trial in Brussels, including Salah Abdeslam. (sda/dpa)
