At least 11 people – 4 women and 7 men – died and four more were injured in an arson fire in a bar this Saturday in Mexican state of Sonorain the northwest of the country, he reported State Attorney’s Office (FGJE).
The prosecutor’s office reported in a press release that the victims were burned to death in a fire that broke out in the facility Cantina Beer House, is located in the city of San Luis Río Colorado.
According to initial investigations, the fire was caused by a Molotov cocktail attack on the bar, which is located directly in front of the border wall in San Luis Río Colorado with Arizona (USA).
At least one American citizen may be among the victims, as the Sonora State Attorney’s Office reported that the woman was taken to San Luis, Arizona for medical treatment.
“The Office of the Attorney General of Sonora is conducting an investigation to identify and apprehend the subject who intentionally set a fire at a bar in the Comercial district of San Luis Río Colorado, Sonora, where 11 people have lost their lives so far,” said an official report from the attorney general’s office.
According to the versions of several witnesses, the subject, a young man, insulted several women inside the bar, which is why he was removed from it.
The man later returned and apparently threw some sort of Molotov cocktail at the door of the building, sparking the incident.
Meanwhile, agents from the Ministry’s Criminal Investigation Agency (AMIC) and expert services are working at the scene to gather evidence.
The FGJE indicated that investigations are still ongoing to clarify the facts and determine the responsibilities against whom or who is responsible.
