In the area around the city of Berlin in Germany, police are warning residents not to leave their homes. The reason has it all: a lioness would get into mischief there, police told t-online in the morning. Whether the animal is really a lioness can only be said with certainty after the animal has been found.

The troops had been warned by witnesses who had seen the alleged lioness. A video circulated on Twitter in the morning in which a large predator could be seen along the road. Early Thursday morning, it was initially not possible to confirm whether this video shows the animal we were looking for.

The focus of the police investigation is mainly in the municipality of Kleinmachnow with about 20,000 inhabitants south of Berlin. Emergency services have been deployed with numerous troops since midnight. Two police helicopters circled the area at night. The searches had no results until 5:15 a.m., the spokesman said. It is not yet clear where the predator came from. “No zoo or circus in the region misses such an animal”said the spokesman.

The emergency services also asked for animal welfare experts with stun guns. This should probably calm the animal down if in doubt. The population was warned about the animal via the warning app Nina and radio messages.
