In a rare public appearance, British intelligence chief Richard Moore made an offer to Russian spies.

Our door is always open. Richard Moore (60), head of the British secret service MI6, addressed this phrase to Russian spies in one of his rare speeches at the residence of the British ambassador in Prague. The head of MI6, known as “C”, wanted to make it clear to would-be defectors on Wednesday that the Secret Service would collect and protect them if they entered the UK, “Politico” reports.

Moore further explained in the speech that Russians who struggle with “sorrow of conscience” would be warmly welcomed by the Secret Service. Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, Russian citizens have come to Britain again and again. They are horrified by the acts being committed in their name in Ukraine – and want to stop the bloodshed.

Your willingness to assist in the West would be treated with discretion and professionalism. Moore: “Your secrets are safe with us.”

Artificial intelligence makes spies even more valuable

The spy chief also used the speech to draw attention to the Russian army’s losses in Ukraine: “There seems to be little chance of the Russian armed forces regaining steam.” Moore also touched on the role of artificial intelligence, AI for short, in espionage. “As AI searches the ocean of open resources, it will be even more valuable to unravel secrets beyond the reach of their web.”

Moore’s speech can be seen as a targeted message to Russia’s political, military and economic actors, writes “Politico”. Especially since the I6 boss keeps a low profile and only has a few public appearances. (A)
